week 27 July 2013

Saw a yellow field of Rapeseed that had lots of poppies and daisies around the edges. It was a couple of days before I could get to take some photo’s by this time a lot of the yellow flowers had dropped around were the poppies and daisies were. Took some shots I was quiet please with but as an after thought I took a few with my phone using the Hipstamatic app using the JOHN S lens and Ina’s 69 film. So this week my image is one of the phone ones.

Week 26 July 2013

Its beginning to look like I have given up on Photography but that is far from the case, just haven’t had the opportunity recently to capture anything I like. Have taken lots of snapshots of my grandchildren and the usual daily stuff.  But I have, as shown in other bits of this blog, started to draw on the iPad. When my Grand children we a little younger a series of photos was take by their father on his phone. In these photos they looked like they were been attacked and then defeated their Gruffello toys. So I had the idea of changing them into a mini comic book. So asked if I could use the photos as reference. At first I used a method I had used before in Photoshop but wasn’t too happy with results and decided to draw by hand but was taking too long in PS as didn't get enough time sat on my Lappy, So was put on a back burner.

Here is where the IPad comes in. First I used “Brushes” and made a rough colour sketch. Then opened the sketch in “InkPad” and inked in the outlines and blocked in the colours. I then put into an app called “halftone” and put in the dots. Opened in “Sketchbook Pro “ both the inkpad drawing and the halftone version and erased some of the halftone. This is the first frame and I have decided to miss out the speech bubbles and Pows ad biffs until I join all the frames as one piece. Have quiet decide how that will work yet might have to finish in PS or perhaps InkPad again. Then I’m going over lay some texture to make the pages look papery.

This is the first frame.2013-07-09 11.22

Week 25 June 2013

This weeks image is some luggage that was on the platform of Embsey Station near Skipton. Had gone out that way on a day trip only to find no trains run on a Monday untill August, the place seemed deserted and we were able to have a look around the platform. Fully intend to go back in August and have a ride on the train.

Week 24 June 2013

Yet again this week I have struggled for an image. Was only out on Monday at my daughters took a lot of snaps of the twins dressed as fairies but that's all they are snaps. This week I didn't do any drawing either too much other stuff going on. I decided on posting my favourite snap of the day but then it was of just one twin and didn’t want to leave the other out so again there are 2 shots.

week 24 June 2013

Had a brief visit to Knaresborough this week mainly to get a Pub lunch. Before lunch I managed a quick walk up to the castle yard.

This weeks image is a window in the castle the shot it’s self is not remarkable its not even that well shot. So why post it here? Well about 5 years ago I had a Kodak bridge camera which I had with me on a visit to the castle with my daughter. At this point hadn’t got back into photography took camera to take the usual snaps. We went on the guided tour of the castle. Just inside the castle you can see this window from the inside. At that time the outside of the window was covered with ivy and I was taken with the sun shining in through the window and the ivy. The resulting photo again not the best but it spurred me on the learn more about photography and eventually to buy a DSLR camera.

Week 23 June 2013

Again I have been playing with the “inkpad” app for ipad. I’m enjoying learning how to use this and discovered I could import a photo to overlay as a texture. The Ipad is an incredible tool, been looking on line at some ipad artists. One of these being…Ron Letkeman

http://www.flickr.com/photos/14225021@N00/ this guys drawings are outstanding.

Have also started to experiment using a few different apps in one drawing. This weeks image is one of the ipad images I have been working on. Don't know why I started to draw a vampire. I started of in “Art Studio” and made a basic sketch then carried on in “inkpad” where I blocked in colours and did the inking also tried some shading using gradients. Then I imported a texture and added that. Afterwards took the whole image and ran through an app called “vintage”

The “finished” image but without the vintage effect.

Week 22 May 2013

Another shot from my Dales trip taken last Monday at Middleham Castle. We have had a long cold winter and it seemed to be ages until any colour was around again. Flowers have at last begun to appear everywhere. There were lots of fields full of buttercups and other wild flowers everywhere but it was the one growing in the castle walls attracted me the most.
