Week 32 August 2013

Yet again I’m behind with the blog this time I was away for a few days in the Yorkshire Dales and returned to the source of this weeks image.

This image was an interesting “still life” arrangement in the back bar of the Richard iii pub in Middleham. The original shots were taken when I was there in May but worked on for week 32. There are a few pictures from that trip in my other blog http://dwarfe.blogspot.co.uk/ anyway back to :-

The Window Sill

Untitled-1

Originally 3 shots stitched together a curves adjustment some dodging and burning and some colour tweaking and some texture added.

Week 31 August 2013

Much to my shame I have neglected my bike, so to rectify this I went for a short ride taking my camera.

On one of my stops I saw this Butterfly on this flower.

Week 30 August 2013

Still experimenting with the iphone camera and edits on the Ipad

Went for a day out on the Embsy to Bolton Abbey railway image taken with ClassicPAN with vignetting and FrameRocket effect turned on. Then edited with Tiltshift app to selectively blur it.

week 27 July 2013

Saw a yellow field of Rapeseed that had lots of poppies and daisies around the edges. It was a couple of days before I could get to take some photo’s by this time a lot of the yellow flowers had dropped around were the poppies and daisies were. Took some shots I was quiet please with but as an after thought I took a few with my phone using the Hipstamatic app using the JOHN S lens and Ina’s 69 film. So this week my image is one of the phone ones.

Week 26 July 2013

Its beginning to look like I have given up on Photography but that is far from the case, just haven’t had the opportunity recently to capture anything I like. Have taken lots of snapshots of my grandchildren and the usual daily stuff.  But I have, as shown in other bits of this blog, started to draw on the iPad. When my Grand children we a little younger a series of photos was take by their father on his phone. In these photos they looked like they were been attacked and then defeated their Gruffello toys. So I had the idea of changing them into a mini comic book. So asked if I could use the photos as reference. At first I used a method I had used before in Photoshop but wasn’t too happy with results and decided to draw by hand but was taking too long in PS as didn't get enough time sat on my Lappy, So was put on a back burner.

Here is where the IPad comes in. First I used “Brushes” and made a rough colour sketch. Then opened the sketch in “InkPad” and inked in the outlines and blocked in the colours. I then put into an app called “halftone” and put in the dots. Opened in “Sketchbook Pro “ both the inkpad drawing and the halftone version and erased some of the halftone. This is the first frame and I have decided to miss out the speech bubbles and Pows ad biffs until I join all the frames as one piece. Have quiet decide how that will work yet might have to finish in PS or perhaps InkPad again. Then I’m going over lay some texture to make the pages look papery.

This is the first frame.2013-07-09 11.22

Week 25 June 2013

This weeks image is some luggage that was on the platform of Embsey Station near Skipton. Had gone out that way on a day trip only to find no trains run on a Monday untill August, the place seemed deserted and we were able to have a look around the platform. Fully intend to go back in August and have a ride on the train.

Week 24 June 2013

Yet again this week I have struggled for an image. Was only out on Monday at my daughters took a lot of snaps of the twins dressed as fairies but that's all they are snaps. This week I didn't do any drawing either too much other stuff going on. I decided on posting my favourite snap of the day but then it was of just one twin and didn’t want to leave the other out so again there are 2 shots.

The colour cast was because she was in a tunnel under a side.

to balance everything a shot of them both, its not everyone that has fairies at the bottom of their garden.

week 24 June 2013

Had a brief visit to Knaresborough this week mainly to get a Pub lunch. Before lunch I managed a quick walk up to the castle yard.

IMGP8935

This weeks image is a window in the castle the shot it’s self is not remarkable its not even that well shot. So why post it here? Well about 5 years ago I had a Kodak bridge camera which I had with me on a visit to the castle with my daughter. At this point hadn’t got back into photography took camera to take the usual snaps. We went on the guided tour of the castle. Just inside the castle you can see this window from the inside. At that time the outside of the window was covered with ivy and I was taken with the sun shining in through the window and the ivy. The resulting photo again not the best but it spurred me on the learn more about photography and eventually to buy a DSLR camera.

Week 23 June 2013

Again I have been playing with the “inkpad” app for ipad. I’m enjoying learning how to use this and discovered I could import a photo to overlay as a texture. The Ipad is an incredible tool, been looking on line at some ipad artists. One of these being…Ron Letkeman

http://www.flickr.com/photos/14225021@N00/ this guys drawings are outstanding.

Have also started to experiment using a few different apps in one drawing. This weeks image is one of the ipad images I have been working on. Don't know why I started to draw a vampire. I started of in “Art Studio” and made a basic sketch then carried on in “inkpad” where I blocked in colours and did the inking also tried some shading using gradients. Then I imported a texture and added that. Afterwards took the whole image and ran through an app called “vintage”

The “finished” image but without the vintage effect.

Week 22 May 2013

Another shot from my Dales trip taken last Monday at Middleham Castle. We have had a long cold winter and it seemed to be ages until any colour was around again. Flowers have at last begun to appear everywhere. There were lots of fields full of buttercups and other wild flowers everywhere but it was the one growing in the castle walls attracted me the most.

Week 21 May 2013

I’m late posting this weeks blog as I have been away for a few days with very “ify” internet connection.
This image was taken on an old Olympus point and shoot this has been adapted to take infrared photos. I was up in the Yorkshire Dales at one of my favourite spots. Cauldron force at West Burton. Last week I had reworked an old shot of these falls to replace my first idea for trying the infrared camera. Had the camera in my bag at weekend and realised this could be a good spot to try this especially as I now have the means to get images of the camera.

Week 20 May 2013

This Week has been spent still playing with progs on Ipad. Did some more frogs using ipad and Artstudio. Have also been playing with photos re edited on the Ipad. So far not go very deep into it yet but there is lots of potential. Had original planned to post an infrared shot taken on an old Olympus point and shoot camera which has been converted of infrared took a few shots but so far not been able to look at them haven’t got a card reader that takes the memory card thats in it and I also haven’t got a cable for camera. So until such time as a cable arrives I will have to post an Ipad photo.

This is West Burton the waterfall there. Took the original a couple of years ago and used to play with. Used curves in one prog and then a filter in another to give a lomo effect then added a texture layer in Artstudio.

Just started playing with them, I like the original best still though.

Week 19 May 2013

This week again not taken many photo’s so this weeks image is one of my first efforts using a vector drawing app on my Ipad called ink pad. Although it doesn’t look much but has been a steep learning curve. Hadn’t done any drawing for years and it was the main reason I got a tablet to perhaps start again. This drawing was from photo of frog and went from there. Not an original concept I know but served its purpose of getting to know the app better.

that was first attempt but composition not right so I cropped in PS

this is what I finnished with

Week 15 April 2013

This weeks image is not a photo I took this week but I composite I have been working on.
In the cause of trying to improve my Photoshop skills I have been reading allsorts of books one of which suggested making a tree house. This was about 18 months ago and the idea has been on the back burner ever since. There is one rule I set myself with any composites I have done is that it all has to be my own work as far as possible, as in all elements have to be from my own stock photo’s. Sometimes its not possible. For instance I did one that needed a human skull but I don’t happen to have one handy, For that picture and other I used free stock images from a photo magazine. For this reason this project has taken a while. At first looking for a suitable tree, and then windows and doors and other bits and pieces. That's why I can sometimes be found shooting strange objects, you never know when they will come in. Then looking at other peoples images I stole the idea of a story coming out of a book. This changed the idea totally. so its always a work in progress. Its still not finished as some cleaning up is needed and I feel as if I lost the plot some what. Perhaps I’ll rework this but more likely will start it again.

Week 14 April

Spring is supposed to be here. Weather has improved although until the weekend it had been colder than normal. Spent a few days in the Yorkshire Dales still a lot of snow on the tops. roads clear though. This weeks image isn’t the weather but sheep.

rest of photos will be in other blog and Facebook when I have sorted them.

Sunday 31 March 2013

Week 13 March 2013

This week end was Easter. Good Friday I managed to get out for a walk. At last blue skies still very cold but at least it was dry. Had a short walk got some photos of “the bench” but they are for the other blog and then followed the annual Churches together procession. A cross is carried through the town to mark Good Friday so this weeks photo is from then.

Week 12 march 2013

This weeks photo was taken Friday morning when I arrive home from work taken with my Pentax Q.

Snow again the crocus suggests it should be spring. The spring equinox was a couple of days ago too. These bright flowers poking up through the snow hopefully herald the warmer weather to come. We can but hope.

Week 11 march 2013

Again I’m a little late posting this not had a great deal of chance to get out and have spent a lot of the week rescuing old photo’s and film. This weeks shot is from an old roll of film I dug out and took to have processed. Thought I would include this as it was processed and the colour was corrected in this week.

Lovely surprise to find they were photo’s from my days as a Morris dancer. Most of the photo’s were taken on a Leeds Morris Dales tour. The group I danced with are called Wharfedale Wayzgoose.  This one is taken in Clapham in the Yorkshire dales during a May day bank holiday although I couldn’t say what year it is some time late 90’s perhaps. The shot is unusual as the subjects are drinking tea and not beer outside a pub!!!

Week 10 March 2013

Driving to York at the beginning of the week and saw a tractor ploughing and hundreds of birds following it. I grabbed my  camera and started shooting. Took three or four shoots then checked camera only to see the message no card in camera. Grabbed card and put in the camera. Mean while tractor was continuing to plough but the birds had decided to move way over the other side of the field. Then the tractor had finished and started to drive away with its plough up. That's when a few stragglers came back. Another missed shot but a lesson learnt, after taking images off a card to put it back in the camera.

This week I did manage a short walk by the river and a few more snaps of the grand children. Also been looking at making an image using scanner instead of camera. Needed to reinstall my scanner so that image will have to be another week. For now though a view of the river Wharfe

Week 5 Feb 2013

Wanting to do a project I thought I’d be able to follow through  fairly easily. Instead of an image a day I thought one a week. Well not as easy as all that just not had much opportunity  to use camera apart from a few pics of my Grandchildren. So had a look around the house to see what I could shoot. Ummm I thought I’ll take a photo of my eye. Three hours later and 3.5 gb of rubbish shots I gave up. Found it very difficult to get my eye in focus. Tried a mirror but couldn’t get to focus in the right place. Tried focusing on something then putting my head in the same place very hit and miss.  If I got it in focus it wasn’t fully in the shot or it was in the right place but out of focus. So this week all I have is a badly shot photo of my eye with some equally bad photoshop work the make it a bit more interesting.

Ah well better luck next week.

Week 1 Jan 2013

Yes the beginning of the year and the time to start projects in the hope of carrying them on for a whole year. I decided that due to my butterfly mind I wouldn't try to post a picture every day of the new year but just one a week. Cowardly I know but I'm sure I would soon get fed up of having to post any old photo because hadn't got anything good. Well so much for that theory partly because I didn't decide to start it until yesterday and also because I didn't get any good shots on my walk yesterday I'm scratting about for owt decent. Here is my first weeks offering.
